Educators

Toshinaro Longchar pursued her International Peace Studies from Trinity College Dublin. She teaches peace and conflict transformation studies as part of the MSW program in  Nagaland. 

She is also engaged in promoting peace education at the undergraduate level in Manipur and Nagaland with PINE. She loves writing, walking and photography.

Dr. Deben BachaspatImayum works with ethnic conflict situations in the northeastern region as trainer/facilitator for local capacities for peace and taught peace and conflict transformation studies at NEISSR, Nagaland. He is a member of the Action Asia peacebuilders forum and Asia South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education. Presently engaged in promoting peace education in Manipur and Nagaland with PINE.

Senior Lecturer at Visva Bharati University

Prof. Soumik Nandy Majumdar is a faculty member of the Department of History of Art, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan in the Department, Kala Bhavana (The Institute of Fine Arts & Crafts). Prof. Majumdar has taught as a Visiting Faculty at IIT- Kanpur, in the discipline of Fine Arts, under the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. He completed his BFA and MFA in History of Art from Santiniketan and M.S.University, Baroda respectively.

He would like to be called an artist who practices design. Illustrations, pre-visualization for Cinema and Animation, Comic and graphic narratives are his passion. Priyankar also teaches illustration, pre-visualization and graphic art in various colleges across India.

Panelists

Rituporno Basu, A self-taught cartoonist, he has been doing comic strips and illustrations for more than a decade. He is a part of various documentation initiatives Bishoy Cartoon, Cartoon Dol cartoonists’ collective), Comics and Graphics Magazine, Cartoon Pattor, etc. Basu has authored Poriborton a collection of political cartoons, and his recent work on global warming has earned a special jury mention at Maya Kamath Memorial Cartoon Competition, 2019, organized by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, Bangalore.

Sayandeb Chowdhury teaches at Ambedkar University Delhi. He has written widely on colonial photography and postcolonial cinema, He was a UKNA Fellow at IIAS, Leiden, and a Charles Wallace UK Trust Fellow. The current project is part of his interest in the multiple modalities of visual modernism in Bengal. His monograph Uttam Kumar: A Life in Cinema was recently published (Bloomsbury Academic).

Bharath Murthy is a cartoonist, filmmaker andeditor/publisher. He edits and publishes Vérité, a comics magazine for adults, under the Comix India label.

Arun Prasad is a practicing pannapictagraphist (comic book archivist), history researcher, artist and freelance writer based in Bangalore, With his vast and wide range of more than 18000 Indian comics includes many out of print comics ranging from mainstream publishers to independent comics. He is in the process of cataloging, documenting and archiving his collection.

Aarthi Parthasarathy is an Indian filmmaker and writer,and has written a number of comics and short graphic stories. She founded Falana Films, a Bangalore-based creative film and animation studio. She created the webcomic Royal Existentials and is also part of Kadak Collective, a group of South Asian women graphic artists and writers. She is one of the editors of the Bystander Anthology, an independent comics anthology released in 2021 by 50+ South Asian comic artists.

Alok Sharma has worked across media with experience in television, animation, feature films, radio, online content and comics. Alok began his career with Gotham Comics as a comic book artist, in 2004 and is now the CCO and Co-Founder of Indusverse, India's premium Graphic Novel brand. or the last few years he has been working on Chitrakatha: Indian Comics Beyond Balloons and Panels’ a documentary that chronicles the history anthology released in 2021 by 50+ South Asian comic and evolution of sequential art in India.

Roma Chatterji is a Professor and Head (Sociology) at the Delhi School of Economics. Her research interests include folklore and narrative traditions, folk art. Her work on visual culture includes Writing Identities: Folklore and Performing Arts of Purulia, West Bengal, Speaking with Pictures: Folk Art and Narrative tradition in India and Graphic Narratives and the Mythological Imagination in India.

Vidyun Sabhaney is a writer, editor and illustrator of graphic narratives based in New Delhi, India. Her recent works include First Hand 1 & 2.

Siddharth Mallavarapu, Professor at the Department of International Relations and Governance Studies, Shiv Nadar University. He is particularly invested in multi-disciplinary conversations with the allied social sciences, humanities and behavioural sciences and makes a conscious effort to integrate graphic narratives as part of his pedagogy.

Zubaan is an independent feminist publishing house based in New Delhi. It was set up as an imprint of India’s first feminist publishing house, Kali for Women, and carries forward Kali’s tradition of publishing world-quality books to high editorial and production standards. Zubaan publishes in the area of humanities, social sciences, as well as in fiction, general non-fiction, and books for children and young adults under its Young Zubaan imprint. Historian, France

Samuel Berthet (Director of Alliance Francaise Hyderabad). He is a historian and his latest works deal with maritime history of the Indian Ocean. He has studied and taught in Delhi University, Visva Bharati, JNU and Shiv Nadar University. He collaborated with many artists and curated nine exhibitions including a recent one at National Museum in New Delhi.
