Illustrator, Graphic Designer & Comic Artist

Karin graduated this summer with a degree in Illustration from the Lucerne School of Art and Design. At the moment she’s making a living as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer which she has been doing before she started studying. Her great love, however, is drawing comics. She says her heart beats for the quiet little stories from everyday life with a pinch of humor.

Anja Wicki lives and works as an illustrator and comic artist in Lucerne, Switzerland. Since 2010, she and two friends have published a comic magazine called Ampel Magazin. Anja Wicki loves straight lines, printing and mountains. Her book The Meaning of Life is a collection of 12 short stories.

An architect (IIT Roorkee) and a designer (NID Ahmedabad), Shreya works with clients, partners, and colleagues to bring out commercially successful, scalable and socially significant new businesses, products, services, and experiences. She writes on the subject of design and new developments and conducts workshops on the subject of design thinking and implementation. She also serves as a visiting faculty to a number of design schools in India. A painter, musician, dog-lover, and a passionate cook, she loves to travel and capture all that awes her with her pen and camera.

Himalini Varma graduated from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Himalini has worked at both national and international levels. She is skilled at developing innovative, health communication strategies and tools. Her experience covers challenging work with children, youth and women in difficult circumstances. Himalini has also worked with rural communities in the Kumaon hills.

Santayan Sengupta an Industrial Design graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Early in his career Santayan got involved with computer applications, which gave him the professional space to explore music, animation and software development. Santayan has been a visiting faculty member at the NID. He has also worked in the Kumaon hills, with the responsibility of overseeing a Carpentry Training and Production Unit that was set up as a part of a development project.

Animator, Filmmaker

A graduate from NID Ahmedabad, Upamanyu Bhattacharyya is an animator, filmmaker, comic artist and illustrator. He co-directed ‘Wade’ with Kalp Sanghvi. He is a founding partner of Ghost Animation, Kolkata. Currently, he is finishing work on his next solo animated short film, ‘Ten’, a dark comedy about the mass exodus from Bangladesh in 1971.

Izabela Plucinska studied at the Lodz Art School and Film School until 2000 and took up studies at the Konrad Wolf Film School in Potsdam-Babelsberg Germany in 2003. In 2004 she graduated with a film project Jam Session. It was selected in a short film competition at the Berlin Film Festival 2005, winning a Silver Bear. She founded her own production company Clay Traces along with her associates. Owing to her renown as an artist, she frequently leads workshops and teaches film animation at universities internationally.

Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Writer

Dr. Dipen Bhattacharya, a physics and astronomy professor at Moreno Valley College, has been conducting research with a small group of people at the University of California, Riverside, for 18 years now. Their research has been on multiple aspects of astrophysics, including gamma ray research. He has published seven works of fiction in Bengali: four novels and three short-story collections. His work looks at the social dynamics of imagined future societies—interwoven with scientific principles -and are often set in Bengal.

Senior Lecturer on the Illustration Course at AUB, Gabrielle Cariolle’s research focuses on authorial and experimental approaches within illustration and animation. Recurring themes and interests of her written work include semiotics, the creation of meaning, affordances, as well as the intentions and effects of illustrations in the context of wider discourses. She likes to consider the image as an exciting site of encounter, exchange, negotiation and self-assertion.
